Planned Parenthood’s ‘Maggie Awards’
honor pro-abortion movies and books

“Planned Parenthood certainly has a friend in some of today’s media,” said David Bereit, national director of American Life League’s STOPP International. “Tonight the abortion chain will honor many of the most outlandish, pro-abortion movies and books of the year with the ‘Maggie Award,’ named after Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger. Given the fact that Sanger was a professed eugenicist and racist, I am not sure who would actually want to be given an award in her name.”

The highly controversial movies “Vera Drake” and “Kinsey” will both receive Maggie Awards at this evening’s banquet. “These two movies are a complete disgrace in their attempts to force Planned Parenthood’s agenda into popular culture,” said Bereit. “The lead characters in both movies were troubled individuals who found success in sexual perversions and the killing of preborn children through abortion.”

Also receiving a Maggie award tonight is the Rev. Tom Davis for his book, Sacred Work: Planned Parenthood and Its Clergy Alliances. “The most troubling of all the awards being given this year is the one for Davis’ book about Planned Parenthood’s supposed ‘sacred work,’” said Bereit. “In recent years Planned Parenthood has done everything in its power to align itself with religious institutions in an attempt to normalize their business of selling sex to kids and aborting babies. It really turns your stomach.”

As Planned Parenthood’s national conference continues through Saturday at the Washington Hilton in D.C., Bereit and Jim Sedlak, executive director of STOPP International, will both be available at the hotel for comments and interviews regarding tonight’s Maggie awards ceremony, as well as the Planned Parenthood national conference in general.

“As much as they attempt to morph their ideologies to seem more acceptable, the fact is that Planned Parenthood is completely out of touch with our society,” said Bereit. “When people learn the truth about the radical and dangerous agenda of this organization, they join the ranks of those opposing Planned Parenthood.”
