Election results show Planned Parenthood is out of touch with mainstream America
"The election results seen around the country prove that Planned Parenthood is simply out of touch with American values," said Jim Sedlak, executive director of American Life League's STOPP International. "It is now clearly obvious that Americans do not adhere to the value-free, humanistic religion that Planned Parenthood pushes on children, families and communities."
Planned Parenthood suffered several major blows in Tuesday's elections. Among the most pivotal defeats Planned Parenthood endured:
- Planned Parenthood officially endorsed and worked tirelessly for the election of Sen. John Kerry - the most fervently pro-abortion candidate ever to run for the United States presidency. Sen. Kerry was defeated by almost 4 million votes.
- Planned Parenthood fought against a parental notification amendment in Florida, which would prevent underage girls from obtaining abortions without their parents' knowledge. The amendment passed by a huge margin of 65% to 35%.
- Planned Parenthood opposed state amendments that define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. However, the amendments were overwhelmingly passed in 11 states.
- American voters came out in full force with the message that moral values were a major factor in this year's elections. Planned Parenthood supports and promotes programs and ideologies that are completely devoid of traditional moral values.
"This election is a complete repudiation of Planned Parenthood's positions and programs," said Sedlak. "We encourage elected officials at all levels of government to recognize that Planned Parenthood is both controversial and out of touch with American society. We call on President Bush and all other elected officials to end the flow taxpayer money to this organization, which currently gets more than $250 million a year in our hard-earned dollars."
