STOPP releases plan to defeat Planned Parenthood
STOPP constantly get calls from people asking how they can defeat Planned Parenthood in their community. Therefore, we have released a comprehensive plan to defeat the nation's number one abortion and contraception pusher -- Planned Parenthood. This plan relies upon people taking up the battle in their own communities. An effective battle plan needs to address several fronts in order to obtain a comprehensive victory. The plan is divided into four parts.
Defeating Planned Parenthood's plans for your community
Defeating Planned Parenthood sex education programs
Defeating government funding of Planned Parenthood
Successful battles against Planned Parenthood
This plan is based on actual experience in fighting -- and defeating -- Planned Parenthood programs, facilities and government funding. In conjunction with local pro-lifers throughout the country, STOPP has been at the forefront of such battles since 1985. These tactics are proven. They work!
There have been some amazing victories, but we have a long way to go. With the help of STOPP's plan, and constant prayer, you too can shut down Planned Parenthood in your community. Action Item: Download this plan for free and share it with others.
STOPP locates 160 surgical and/or RU-486 PP abortion facilities
A recent STOPP study identified 846 Planned Parenthood facilities in the US. Of these 846, a total of 160 U.S. PP facilities were identified as also providing post-implantation surgical or chemical (RU-486) abortions. To find out which cities these abortion facilities are in, as well as the total number of PP facilities in each state, follow this link.
STOPP's president launches campaign to defeat Planned Parenthood
"We're going to unmask the real goals of Planned Parenthood and its Vision 2025," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League and president of ALL's STOPP International. Jim kicked off STOPP's latest initiative against Planned Parenthood during a speaking tour of Wisconsin, Illinois, and South Dakota from October 2 to 12. His lectures focused on Planned Parenthood's sordid history, and why its new plan clearly shows Planned Parenthood's intent to continue its advocacy of lifestyles of self-destruction. (See the next story about PP's new plan).
Planned Parenthood continually bills itself as the nation's largest and most trusted voluntary reproductive health care organization. But the truth is that Planned Parenthood is a self-serving and lucrative baby killing business out to indoctrinate as many children as possible into its hedonistic, humanist philosophies.
In order to achieve its goals, Jim said, "Planned Parenthood needs to gain the support and acceptance of other organizations across the United States. The purpose of our effort is to alert people to Planned Parenthood's true agenda. We intend to cause so much discontent with the Planned Parenthood programs that Planned Parenthood will have no choice but to close its doors."
Jim Sedlak is a recognized expert on Planned Parenthood. He has been fighting the organization for 17 years. Since he formed STOPP International, Planned Parenthood has closed more than 100 clinics, it has seen a 16 percent drop in attendance at its sex education programs, and it has lost almost 100,000 female birth control customers. Jim has appeared on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, MTV's Sex in the Nineties, EWTN, and the Dr. Laura radio program. Planned Parenthood once named him as one of the 15 "most active" fighters against its sex education programs.

STOPP exposes Planned Parenthood's 25 year plan of destruction
Planned Parenthood Federation of America has released a plan that it says will guide it through the first quarter of this century. Called "Vision 2025," it details the ten main goals that PPFA hopes to achieve by the year 2025. STOPP's president, Jim Sedlak, provided an initial analysis of the PP plan in a recent issue of American Life League's Celebrate Life magazine. Jim's analysis is posted online.
Jim is currently preparing a detailed analysis and it's availability will be announced in a future Ryan Report.
STOPP debates NOW on MSNBC about parental notice for contraceptives
On August 18, 2002, STOPP's national director, Ed Szymkowiak, appeared on MSNBC News to debate Ms. Terry O'Neill, Membership Vice President of the National Organization for Women (NOW). The issue they debated is whether there should be parental notice when minors request contraception. Ed's in-depth analysis of this issue was published in the Washington Dispatch. Also see the next article.
Rep. Akin to propose parental notice for contraception
Congressman Todd Akin (R-Miss.) plans to introduce legislation soon that would require recipients of federal Title X population control funds to notify parents when a minor child is seeking contraceptives. This was the goal of the Istook-Manzullo amendment that was proposed, but never implemented, in the late 1990s. Congressman Akin's legislation is very similar to the Istook-Manzullo proposal. While STOPP would prefer that Title X be totally eliminated, the Akin proposal would be a step in the right direction. Action Item: Readers are urged to ask their own representative in Congress to contact Akin’s office and sign on as a cosponsor of this important legislation. For details see "Akin Title X parental notification requirement for distribution of contraceptives to minors."

Congressman Vitter's amendment would defund abortion providers
Action Item: Please contact your representatives in Congress immediately and ask them to support Congressman David Vitter's (R-LA) amendment to the 2003 Labor/HHS/Education Appropriations Bill. The Vitter Amendment will prevent Title X "family planning" funds from going to private agencies that provide chemical or surgical abortions in the United States. See the previous article for contact information.
The matter will likely be addressed sometime this fall in the Appropriations Committee, so action on your part is needed today. If the amendment passes in committee, the matter will go before the entire House where Vitter believes it has a good chance of passing.
Vitter's office asked STOPP to contact our supporters because STOPP is firmly against the entire Title X program. Current funding is $265.1 million and Planned Parenthood will get about $61 million of this. Under the Vitter Amendment Planned Parenthood and other private abortion providers in the United States would not qualify for Title X funds.
STOPP would like to see the entire Title X program eliminated, and we urge you to convey that message your representatives in Congress as well. While the Vitter Amendment does not eliminate Title X, it is a worthy effort to restrict the program, and, thus, it deserves our support.
Remember that Title X funds do not pay for surgical or RU-486 abortions but Title X does fund organizations that, with other funds, provide surgical and RU-486 abortions. Also, some of the contraceptives that Title X does fund often act to prevent implantation of a human embryo in his or her mother's womb. That's an early abortion and via Title X your tax money is paying for it!
Bush OK's NY Medicaid plan for contraceptives
Once again the Bush administration has betrayed its professed pro-life credentials. Bowing to pressure from Planned Parenthood and pro-abortion New Yorkers such as Gov. George Pataki and Sens. Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer, the Bush administration approved a waiver which allows New York to expand its coverage of condoms and sometimes-abortifacient contraceptive drugs and devices.
The waiver allows persons making up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level to obtain contraceptive coverage from Medicaid. The previous threshold was 135 percent. This is a major defeat for the pro-life movement. Other states will likely follow suit. President Bush should be ashamed of himself.
Taxpayers will now be forced to subsidize even more intrinsically-evil contraception than we were before. Furthermore, many of the contraceptive drugs and devices provided under this Medicaid expansion will result in the deaths of tiny embryonic human beings because these contraceptives often act by preventing implantation rather than fertilization. We shouldn't be forced to pay for such killings.
The Bush family has a long history of promoting government funded contraceptive programs. As members of Congress, George H. Bush and James Scheuer led the effort to establish the domestic Title X population control program in 1970. In 2002, George W. Bush approved $265.1 million for that same program and an additional $446.5 million for the foreign USAID population control program. That money is fuel for the Culture of Death both here and abroad. Some of it lines the pockets of such abortion promoters as Planned Parenthood. If Bush were truly pro-life, as he claims, he would be working to eliminate such programs. Instead, by granting the New York Medicaid waiver, he has made things worse.
For more detail about the Bush family planning legacy read pages 5-6 of the May 2002 issue of the Ryan Report. Also see the New York Daily News story, "Bush OKs Medicaid money for condoms."
October is Planned Parenthood's "National Family Sexuality Education Month"
Planned Parenthood has declared October to be "National Family Sexuality Education Month."
When you consider all that Planned Parenthood has done over the years to undermine parental authority and destroy the very essence of the family, this organization's proclamation of National Family Sexuality Education Month is plain hypocrisy. National Family Sexuality Education Month is described as "an annual effort by a national coalition of organizations to promote family communication about sexuality."
STOPP renews its call for all Americans to reject Planned Parenthood's sordid agenda, and we call on taxpayers to insist that federal, state and local governments quit using our tax money to fund Planned Parenthood programs that treat sexual relations as a recreational activity. Planned Parenthood talks up parental involvement in this annual October promotion, but it works year round to undermine parental rights by promoting fornication and contraception in often-graphic sex-ed programs in the schools. Through its teen-oriented web site, Planned Parenthood further undermines parents who are trying to lead their children toward the practice of virtue.
Furthermore, Planned Parenthood opposes current efforts in Congress that would require organizations that receive money from the federal Title X population control program to inform parents when a child is seeking contraceptives. National Family Sexuality Month is a deceptive gimmick designed to betray parents while simultaneously promoting contraceptive use among their children. This cynical ploy is meant to bolster Planned Parenthood's bottom line. It will create more clients requiring treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, line Planned Parenthood's pockets with more money from contraceptive sales and enhance its surgical abortion business, as contraceptives sometimes fail to prevent pregnancies. Financial and service data about Planned Parenthood's profit generating business may be found in the April 2002 issue of the Ryan Report.
