THE STOPP REPORT
Special report: Statistics
Summary
This report has presented a view of the statistics reported by Planned Parent-hood. We hope that we have been able to demonstrate that Planned Parenthood is an organization that generates big dollars, but is declining in its attractiveness to the general population.
No analysis of Planned Parenthood would be complete without a look at its income and expenses as well as its total services. The chart on the back page will give you that data for the last five years.
Taxpayer Money
As you review that detailed data, we want to point out that the American taxpayer is still a major contributor to the funding of Planned Parenthood. The chart shows that you contributed 26.7 percent of PP's total income. And, if we subtract the one-time gift of $75 million by a single donor to Planned Parenthood of New York City, your payments to PP actually amount to over 30 percent of PP's income.
You should know that, since 1987, you and the rest of the American taxpayers have contributed $1.81 billion to Planned Parenthood. During this time, Planned Parenthood recorded a profit every year.
Perhaps it is time that we called on elected officials everywhere to stop all government funding of Planned Parenthood. It can be done. The state of Missouri has voted five years in a row not to give any money to Planned Parenthood. If you are interested in pursuing this effort in your area, we have a booklet that can be printed from our web site. The booklet is titled "Defeating Government Funding of Planned Parenthood" and has been used by many people to halt the use of our money by PP.
With PP's record of making money, it may be time for members of congress to ask the IRS to remove its tax exempt status.
Sex Education
As this report points out, if we can decrease the number of attendees at Planned Parenthood sex education programs, it will have significant effects on Planned Parenthood's business. With this evidence in hand, it is time for all those who oppose the abortion business of Planned Parenthood to realize that, if we are to eventually reduce its abortion business, we must stop its sex education programs.
Although PP sex education attendees and female birth control customers are declining, PP is bolstering its abortion business by opening more and more
surgical abortion facilities. In doing so it either drives competing abortionists out of business (as it did in York, Pennsylvania) or acquires their abortion facilities (as it did in Kansas City, Missouri). In either case, it is clear that PP cannot continue these tactics indefinitely. If it keeps losing customers, eventually it will see a reduction in its abortion business and in its profits.
STOPP has produced a number of tools to help you fight PP sex education programs. Our book Parent Power!! is still regarded by many in the pro-family movement as the definitive guide to stopping PP sex education. You can print out a copy of this book for free from our web site (www.stoppinternational.org) or you can order a hard copy from our resource department (540-659-4171).
In addition to Parent Power!!, our resource department also has a set of videos on Planned Parenthood that give you details on its sex education programs, why they are inherently flawed, and how to fight them.
Statewide efforts
With the information presented in this report on Planned Parenthood's affiliates around the nation, you can begin to target Planned Parenthood in your state. Remember that the people in Mississippi and Hawaii were able to cause Planned Parenthood to close up and move out of their states entirely.
For those interested in beginning that effort in their own states, or even in their small towns, we have a booklet that can be printed from our web site. The booklet is titled "Countering Planned Parenthood's Plans for Your Community."
Conclusion
There is no doubt that Planned Parenthood is still a major driving force in the culture of death. Efforts by STOPP supporters through the years are beginning to have an effect and we are seeing a weakening of the underpinnings of this once solid organization. Now is the time for all to get involved and . . .
