A coalition including American Life League, Human Life International and the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry have spent the last two months exposing CCHD’s funding of organizations promoting abortion, homosexual marriage, birth control and sex education. In the last year alone, CCHD has funneled at least $1.3 million to groups opposing Catholic Church teaching. CCHD describes itself as the “domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops.” The coalition’s latest discovery exposes 31 organizations partnered with Center for Community Change. CCC is a politically radical, anti-life, pro-homosexualist organization whose board members include Heather Booth, former consultant for the National Organization for Women and Sara Gould, President and CEO of pro-abortion Ms. Foundation for Women. Through their "Generation Change" program CCC trains and develops staff as "community organizers" for their partner groups. CCC provides a resource library with books promoting "reproductive freedom and its "Movement Vision Lab"  equates access to abortion and "reproductive justice" with seeking criminal justice. This project aims to build a "progressive movement" with a "coherent, compelling, shared vision — one that represents our values and dreams for society" according to the group. “The connection is undeniable. There is no excuse for Catholic donations going towards organizations trained and supported by groups diametrically opposed to the Church,” said Michael Hichborn, lead researcher into CCHD for American Life League. “Until CCHD proves grantees do not affiliate with those who attack Church teaching, CCHD should not receive a single dime.” CCHD annually collects between $7-9 million from parishes across the country. This money is then redistributed to “community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education,” according to their web site. Since the coalition began the investigation at least two dioceses, Allentown and Madison, have publicly announced they will not be participating in the Nov. 22 collection. Gamaliel, one of the CCHD grantees partnered with CCC, reports that five diocese have backed out of this year's CCHD collection. American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. ACT NOW! CCHD on Funding Pro-Abort Groups Today at 4 p.m. EST http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12358 2009-11-19 12:59:00 SPEAK OUT AT 4 P.M. EST AGAINST CCHD SCANDAL DURING DREW MARIANI SHOW -  ONLY 4 DAYS UNTIL CCHD COLLECTION Relevant Radio's Drew Mariani Show is covering the firestorm surrounding the Catholic Campaign for Human Development today at 4 p.m. EST. On air, Ralph McCloud, director of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' CCHD National Office, will attempt to explain funding of groups that support abortion, contraception, homosexual marriage and partisan political agendas. According to the Drew Mariani Show, Ralph will "clear up misconceptions and present the truth on who[m] the CCHD is funding, the criteria they use to fund these groups and how they respond to the controversial boycott." "The truth is the CCHD is engaging in a cover-up," said Michael Hichborn, American Life League's lead researcher into the CCHD scandal. "They are funding organizations contributing to the culture of death and undermining the Church." We need YOU to call in to the Drew Mariani Show today at  4 p.m. and demand the truth from Ralph McCloud. Light up those phone lines! You can listen live to the show at: http://www.relevantradio.com/Page.aspx?pid=275 Call in number: 1-877-766-3777 Questions to ask Ralph McCloud: "How did the CCHD screeners miss that the Chinese Progressive Association filed an amicus curiae brief in 2006 against the State of California in favor of homosexual marriage and then receive funds every subsequent year from the CCHD?" "Why is the Chicago Workers' Collaborative, a public advocate of Marxist socialism, receiving Catholic money?" "How can the Los Angeles Archdiocese claim that LA CAN has not engaged in activity contrary to Catholic teaching when LA CAN's own newsletter specifically promotes homosexual marriage and birth control?" "Why is the San Francisco Organizing Project still being funded after boldy admitting to winning a $200,000 grant for a "teen clinic" dedicated to 'family planning' counseling and handing out emergency contraception?" "Why did Bishop Morin claim that the CCHD has 'never given money to organizations operating against Church teaching' when so many have been found to support birth control, homosexuality and even abortion?" (CCHD admits that they gave over $7 million to ACORN - a group that irrefutably works at counter purposes to the Church.)" "How did the Interfaith Justice and Peace Center in Cincinnati ever get cleared for funds when the group lists the National Organization for Women and Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG) on their own web site?" FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS GRAVE SCANDAL AT http://www.all.org/cchd "Until the USCCB and the CCHD stop giving our money to groups attacking the Body of Christ and contributing to the culture of death, we will encourage people not to give another dime to the Nov. 22 CCHD second collection," Hichborn said. "Frankly, this is disgusting and it's time it stopped." American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. Catholic Campaign for Human Development Scandal Continues http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12345 2009-11-16 17:21:00   Washington, D.C. (16 November 2009) – American Life League is calling for reform of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development – a branch of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops - after grantees were discovered promoting abortion, same-sex marriage, and birth control. Today, ALL added six CCHD grantees to its growing list of organizations engaging in Anti-Catholic activities. 1) The Southwest Organizing Project ($45,000) encourages birth control through “comprehensive” sex education. 2) Chicago Workers Collaborative ($30,000) is listed with the Marxist group, International Socialist Organization, and participated in the Socialism 2009 conference by giving a presentation. 3) Voces de la Frontera ($50,000) promoted a homosexual campaign called “Gay Neighbor.org,” for ally group Equality Wisconsin. 4) Little Village Environmental Justice Organization ($40,000) promoted birth control and homosexual lifestyles in its newsletter to teens. 5) Massachusetts Community Labor United ($30,000) joined “Cure CVS Now” coalition to expand access to condoms. 6) Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center ($25,000) lists Cincinnati National Organization for Women, International Socialist Organization, and several pro-homosexual groups as “friends and colleagues” on its web site. CCHD director Ralph McCloud told the Catholic News Service that groups are vetted through an approval process before receiving funding: “There are so many screens along the way.  We have the local (committees) looking at the organization, the local diocesan director. The local bishops will sign off and endorse the organization. Then national staff will have interviews and interact with the group.” “Given how easily we discovered CCHD funding going to anti-Catholic causes, the only two possibilities are that the CCHD is incompetent or complicit,” responded Michael Hichborn, American Life League’s lead researcher into CCHD funding said. “We’re finding more and more evidence every day with far less information than the CCHD receives through its granting process.” “We are calling on Catholics everywhere to boycott the CCHD donation this Sunday by dropping our ‘No, Thank You” statement in the collection basket,’ said Hichborn.  American Life League’s detailed profile of CCHD grantees and the downloadable statement are on ALL’s web site: www.all.org/cchd The Refom CCHD Now Coalition includes American Life League, Human Life International, the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry, Catholic Radio International, Real Catholic TV and the Catholic Media Coalition. Victory or Defeat: The Stupak Amendment http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12330 2009-11-10 13:26:00 Washington, D.C.  (10 November 2009) – On Saturday night, National Right to Life Committee and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops gave Speaker Nancy Pelosi the push she needed to pass HR 3962, the “Affordable Health Care for America Act.” Some pro-lifers heralded victory. The Stupak Amendment kept some abortion funding out of the government-run public option. Others, including American Life League, called the night a crushing blow to human rights and the battle for a culture of life. "As the health care debate moves into the Senate, the pro-life movement must repudiate the half measures currently being touted as victory in some pro-life circles," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "Far too many vulnerable human beings' lives hang in the balance, not to mention the credibility and integrity of the entire pro-life effort." “NRLC and the USCCB have dealt a horrific blow to the pro-life movement,” she continued. “If we don't act now and expose this deal for what it is, National Right to Life could again sell out the pro-life movement with the Senate vote." Here’s a look at the Stupak Amendment HR 3962 – what we’ve lost and what we’ve gained. Without National Right to Life Committee and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ support for the bill with the Stupak provisions included, HR 3962 could not have passed. "The Stupak Amendment was no victory for the pro-life movement," Brown said. "NRLC and the USCCB have traded millions of lives for political ‘success.’" American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. Statement Regarding Cardinal Rigali's Memo Protecting the Status Quo on Life http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12326 2009-11-07 12:56:00 Judie Brown: "Faithful Catholics have a responsibility to vigorously oppose all acts of killing in health care, not negotiate for the status quo." Washington, D.C. (07 November 2009) American Life League president Judie Brown released the following statement regarding the news that Cardinal Justin Rigali will support Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962), provided an amendment preserving the status quo for abortion is voted upon.   "Our Catholic bishops should be fearlessly leading the way towards a culture of life. Fighting to maintain a status quo that has led to the destruction of 51 million preborn children is wrong and confusing to 65 million Catholics united in the defense of life."What Cardinal Rigali has permitted, by way of political maneuvering, is to allow an amendment to be heard and, we fear, later watch it be defeated. While our Catholic bishops will scramble to define their opposition to abortion in the aftermath, Pelosi will wave Rigali's support for health care reform as evidence that lay Catholics would somehow be wrong in opposing her bill. "In endorsing Pelosicare, our Catholic bishops have risked making themselves political pawns in advancing a culture of death that treats human beings as disposable. "Once again, this incrementalist approach to abortion will serve to enshrine in law grave injustices condemned unequivocally by the Catholic Church. Among these are rationed health care, in vitro fertilization, embryonic stem cell research, human experimentation, euthanasia and birth control. "Faithful Catholics have a responsibility to vigorously oppose all acts of killing in health care, not negotiate for the status quo. "Our Catholic bishops, when they negotiate for anything less than the full protection all human beings deserve, undermine the very principles of the Catholic faith and destroy the confidence of faithful Catholics across America. "Our Catholic bishops should point to the unchanging principles and doctrines of the Catholic faith, not negotiate for a status quo that ends the lives of human beings. Today's letter abrogates those principles. Americans should know that a truly Catholic position on health care protects the right to life of all human beings, at all stages and at all times. "Negotiation of truth is never a Catholic principle. Truth alone should inform the consciences of faithful Catholics, and truth demands the full protection of all human beings." Planned Parenthood Fail: Endorsement 'Kiss of Death' for Deeds, Scozzafava, Corzine http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12316 2009-11-03 00:00:00 Washington, D.C. (03 November 2009) – What do Dede Scozzafava, Creigh Deeds and Gov. Jon Corzine have in common?  All were endorsed by abortion mammoth Planned Parenthood. All three candidates were virulent supporters of abortion rights and opponents of human personhood.   “Planned Parenthood is well known for its protection of child predators, overcharging states for birth control and growing abortion business,” said Rita Diller, national director of American Life League’s STOP Planned Parenthood project. “This election shows that an endorsement from Planned Parenthood is the political “kiss of death” – as it was for Deeds, Corzine and Scozzafava.” The humiliating loss by Scozzafava was a particularly hard blow for Planned Parenthood, as she was clearly the “poster child” of Planned Parenthood political candidates. The long-time Planned Parenthood supporter, board member, and Sanger Award winner had such a poor showing that she was forced to resign from the campaign the week before the election. The losses reflect a trend identified by several nationally recognized polls earlier in the year that a majority of Americans consider themselves “pro-life.” In May, Gallup found that 51 percent of Americans self-identify as pro-life and, in October, the Pew Research Center found 45 percent of Americans oppose abortion in most or all cases, up four percent from the year before. Deeds stressed his “pro-choice” views for several months in television commercials and was soundly rejected by Virginia voters. “It is political insanity to hitch your wagon to the most notorious abortion chain in the country,” Diller said. “Let this serve as a reminder – if you support killing children in the womb, the American people know you do not deserve public office.” American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. Human Rights for All Human Beings? Not if Planned Parenthood Can Help It http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12312 2009-11-02 15:27:00 Washington, D.C. (02 November 2009) –  Planned Parenthood is suing the state of Missouri over approval of a proposed personhood amendment to the state constitution. The proposed Missouri Personhood Amendment reads: Section 35. Person defined. As used in sections 2, 10, and 14 of Article I of the state constitution, the term "person" shall apply to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being. The Planned Parenthood lawsuit contends the wording of the personhood ballot initiative does not warn voters of the legal and constitutional implications if the measure passes. Initiative sponsor Dr. Gregory Johnson points out that it is unnecessary for ballot proposals to outline every legal scenario and that the lawsuit will cost state taxpayers additional funds and government resources. “Planned Parenthood is again trying to stifle the will of the people by forcing their twisted political and business agenda through court action. They know the people are against them," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “The only legal implication of any personhood proposal, including Missouri's, is equal justice and human rights for all human beings – if Planned Parenthood wants to oppose that, then their true motivation has been exposed and they should have the courage to say so.” American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. Alaska Personhood Amendment Launch http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12311 2009-11-02 14:22:00 Washington, D.C. (02 November 2009) –  Alaska residents have launched a petition drive that could make the state the first in the nation to recognize human rights for all human beings.        Personhood Alaska sponsor Christopher Kurka is coordinating the drive to get 30,000 Alaska voters to sign the petition before it appears on the ballot.            The personhood movement seeks to recognize all human beings from the biological beginning of their development as persons and, as such, entitled to equal protection under the law. Alaska is the eighth state to launch a campaign for a personhood amendment to the state constitution. The other states are Missouri, California, Colorado, Florida, Montana, Michigan and Nevada. “America’s last frontier could be America’s first state to recognize human rights for all,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “This amendment campaign is a historic step toward real social justice in Alaska and the nation.” American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. Statement on USCCB Directive Against Obamacare http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12304 2009-10-29 15:55:00 Washington, D.C. (29 October 2009) – American Life League’s Judie Brown, a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, issued the following statement on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ national campaign mobilizing every parish to oppose abortion in health care reform and demand conscience protections for health care workers. “We applaud the USCCB’s unprecedented action in its national campaign to mobilize parishes against the current versions of the health care bill. It has taken an important first step in activating Catholics to take back our health care system and our country from the radical pro-aborts in the legislature and sometimes even in the pulpits. "We proudly stand with the USCCB in its statement: 'Health care reform should be about saving lives, not destroying them.' "But we remind the USCCB that Catholics cannot stop at opposing abortion and demanding conscience protection. Where is the USCCB on the health care reform bills’ potential to fund Planned Parenthood, to use our tax dollars to indoctrinate children with sex education in schools, to fund euthanasia, in vitro fertilization, human embryonic stem cell research, contraception and health care rationing? "All of these things are present in all of the current versions of the health care bill. None of these are acceptable according to Catholic teaching. All Catholics are duty bound to reject 'health care reform' if it contains any of the above grievous offenses against human life and personhood. "Catholics need to know why, at every level, these proposals are fraught with death and destruction of the soul. "Finally, Catholics need to know that the USCCB, acting of itself, carries no authority to instruct the bishops on the governance of their flocks. It is imperative that each and every bishop make a public statement condemning these health care proposals until they exclude any provisions for: - abortion - human embryonic stem cell research - contraceptives - rationed care - in vitro fertilization - euthanasia - sex education in schools "The God-given personhood of all human beings will be recognized in the United States the moment the united, individual U.S. Catholic bishops boldly proclaim and fight for the unchanging doctrines of the Faith." Rock for Life Leader and 'One Last Day' Author Confronts Teen Pregnancy at Infamous Robeson High http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12303 2009-10-29 14:41:00 Washington, D.C. (29 October 2009) – The Windy City has another champion for human personhood in Cutter Lang, the new Chicago Rock for Life chapter leader, author and musician. Lang's award winning first novel, One Last Drive, featured a foreword by Chicago Bears Super Bowl coach, Mike Ditka. His first nonfiction book, Redemption, shared his experience in counseling after being sexually assaulted. While in counseling, Cutter discovered that the morning after pill, which his girlfriend had taken, is abortive. This led to his third project, Empowerment. Only a week after officially receiving recognition as a Rock for Life chapter, Lang zeroed in on Chicago’s Robeson High School. At Robeson, one in seven girls is either pregnant or has already given birth. Working with high school staff and local crisis pregnancy center Aid for Women, Cutter set up a referral program so these young mothers have access to life-affirming, chastity-promoting mentors. “With the start of every new Rock for Life chapter, American Life League’s personhood message blankets the nation with truth,” said Kortney Blythe, chapter coordinator for Rock for Life. “When someone of esteem joins the Rock for Life team, the sphere of influence extends even further. We’re inspired by Lang’s enthusiasm for life, his understanding of the dignity of the human person and we’re excited to welcome Lang and Chicago Rock for Life to the RFL family.” Rock for Life, a project of American Life League, works with hundreds of bands and thousands of pro-life youth who use music as a means to engage, educate and equip our culture to be advocates for life.  LIFE. - not for judgment, not for control, for a better world. Coming Soon: Planned Parenthood's Inalienable Right - Sexual Freedom for Children http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12298 2009-10-28 17:16:00 Washington, D.C. (28 October 2009) – International Planned Parenthood Federation’s new document “Sexual Rights: An IPPF Declaration," exposed in American Life League's latest ALL Report, could have a significant impact on health care policy under the presidential administration's new plan. In “A Declaration of Debauchery,” ALL’s Michael Hichborn analyzed the IPPF declaration released in June.  Goals of the declaration include a universal right to tax-funded abortion on demand, granting children autonomous rights to sexual pleasure according to their “capacity,” and allowing child predators to conceal past criminal sexual history. “The declaration is completely consistent with Planned Parenthood’s record of sexualizing children,” said Rita Diller, director of ALL's STOP Planned Parenthood project. “But what is historic about this is for the first time Planned Parenthood has completely divorced sexual rights from reproductive rights. Planned Parenthood has been outed – they are about uninhibited sex for everyone – including children.” And as the nation debates the Obama administration’s pro-abortion, pro-Planned Parenthood health agenda, the IPPF declaration could have significant meaning. “The health care reform bill could grant Planned Parenthood a quasi-government position,” Diller said.  “If that happens, Planned Parenthood could use its national position to implement this IPPF policy.” The current version of America’s Healthy Future Act creates a new program called the National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Resource Center. (Section 1823) According to the requirements, this program will be granted to “a nationally recognized, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization” that “has demonstrated experience working with and providing assistance to a broad range of individuals and entities to reduce teen pregnancy,” and “is research-based and has comprehensive knowledge and data about teen pregnancy prevention strategies.” “It seems the wording was framed with Planned Parenthood in mind,” Diller continued.  “If this provision remains, and Planned Parenthood is granted control of that program, this “Declaration of Debauchery” could well be the cornerstone for prohibiting restrictions on the sexual activity of children.” American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. Section 1803: Senate Health Care Bill Makes Planned Parenthood Quasi-Government Agency? http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12294 2009-10-27 11:27:00 Washington, D.C. (27 October 2009) – The Senate version of America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009 may transform the nation’s largest abortion chain into a quasi-government entity for sex education. Section 1803, page 503, creates a National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Resource Center and states: The Secretary shall award a grant to a nationally recognized, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that meets the requirements described in clause (ii) to establish and operate a national teen pregnancy prevention resource center (in this subparagraph referred to as the ‘Resource Center’) to carry out the purpose and activities described in clause (iii). (emphasis added)According to the requirements found in clause (ii): The organization has demonstrated experience working with and providing assistance to a broad range of individuals and entities to reduce teen pregnancy.  The organization is research-based and has comprehensive knowledge and data about teen pregnancy prevention strategies.According to Rita Diller, national director for STOP Planned Parenthood, there is only one “nationally recognized” organization that fits the bill – Planned Parenthood. “This dangerous provision to the Senate health care bill could give Planned Parenthood, already under investigation for tax fraud and concealing child rape, quasi-government status and even more influence over our kids,” Diller said. Section 1803 also creates a  “Personal Responsibility Education for Adulthood Training” program (i.e., sex education), which grants at least $250,000 to each state to educate adolescents on "both abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and STDs." American Life League’s Michael Hichborn has a full analysis of this and the many other dangerous provisions included in the health care bill in his upcoming Report on America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009. ALL: Rhode Island Bishop Rightly Calls Kennedy Attack on Church 'Ignorant' http://www.all.org/article.php?id=12292 2009-10-26 15:34:00 Washington, D.C. (26 October 2009) – American Life League president Judie Brown sent the following letter today to Bishop Thomas J. Tobin after his public censure of U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island. Rep. Kennedy attacked Church teaching on abortion in health care reform as fanning “the flames of dissent and discord.” Bishop Tobin responded, saying, “Congressman Patrick Kennedy’s statement about the Catholic Church’s position on health care reform is irresponsible and ignorant of the facts … I believe the Congressman owes us an apology for his irresponsible comments. It is my fervent hope and prayer that he will find a way to provide more effective and morally responsible leadership for our state.”   "Your Excellency, We just read about your strong corrective words in response to Congressman Patrick Kennedy's arrogant dismissal of the Catholic Church's principled position on abortion and health care reform. Clearly, the congressman does not understand his faith, nor does he accept the fact that truth does not change.  Hopefully, your words will ring in his ears and his heart. We agree with you, of course, that the congressman owes you an apology, but at a more fundamental level, he owes Christ his allegiance to truth. Otherwise, he must admit that, in fact, he is not a Catholic. The Church has suffered greatly because of so-called Catholics who think they can mold the Church in their own image. It is high time that bishops pointed this out as forcefully as you have in this particular case. Thank you for standing up to Congressman Kennedy's balderdash! We remember you in our daily prayers and give praise to God for your courageous, holy leadership. The Catholic people of Rhode Island are blessed to have you as their shepherd. Sincerely yours in the Lord Who IS Life, Judie Brown, President American Life League, Inc."   American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown.
