As both the new year and the March for Life approach, we reprint a popular commentary that reminds us not only of the atrocities of Planned Parenthood, but also of the destruction caused by abortion.
The 1970’s Sesame Street jingle “One of these things is not like the other” seems appropriate to the current situation in Washington, D.C.
The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee is holding hearings entitled “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation's Largest Abortion Provider," with the purpose of investigating PP and its practices. The witness list for this past Wednesday’s event was interesting, if nothing else.
While the hearings continue, we look across our capital city to a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility that is being built right next door to Two Rivers Public Charter School. Some parents are upset by the location of this facility, yet are not opposed to Planned Parenthood’s activities per se. Other parents are concerned, not because Planned Parenthood is building on the site, but because pro-life protesters with graphic signs are picketing the construction site.
This juxtaposition of events and news stories makes one wonder what could possibly be going wrong with the public’s attitude today. How could anyone turn a blind eye toward actions as morally criminal as abortion, yet be appalled by those who are opposed to these crimes and who wish to show their agony over the tragedy of abortion by picketing?
Since when is the picketing more offensive than the killing?
One of these things is not like the other.
Common sense has taken a holiday. And that is a fact.
This is one of the many reasons why American Life League representatives Emily Brown and Melissa Pena attended the Women Betrayed Rally yesterday in Washington, D.C. The young women issued the following joint statement on the eve of the event:
As an organization and as young women, we’ve seen and heard from women nationwide about their experiences with Planned Parenthood. For those who have succumbed to the lies and deceit propagated by the abortion chain and its allies in the House and Senate, and for those who have seen the recent videos that shine the light of truth upon Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of baby body parts, we stand with one voice to express our horror concerning the destruction and damage perpetrated on women and their children by Planned Parenthood. It’s time for this tragedy to end, and it ends by withdrawal of all public and private funding of the profiteering organization known as Planned Parenthood and its franchises.
Women are being betrayed by Planned Parenthood and by the U.S. government. We stand together in solidarity and demand immediate action to end this horror.
We agree! We abhor the social disconnect between the horrors those videos have shown in regard to PP’s practices and the inanity of politicians who cannot bring themselves to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood, but who can sit in hearing rooms and listen to testimonies that do not scratch the surface of the facts that a mere minute of one of those videos makes clear.
Words cannot compete with the images of the physical evidence—the tiny legs, arms, and organs of bodies mutilated by abortionists whose goal is not only to kill a preborn child but to harvest his body parts for “science.”
Quoting Father Frank Pavone, “We need to elect public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public."
Indeed, one of these things is not like the other.
