Face it... Abortion Kills!Without a doubt, abortion is the pro-life concern. It's the main reason we have a pro-life movement. But believe it or not, many people don't know much about it. This section presents some of the basics. The numbers are staggering, the methods cruel and the history astonishing. Abortion simply must stop. Here's all the information you need to know why.

The term "abortion" has traditionally meant the intentional or unintentional expulsion of the preborn child from the uterus before he or she has reached the age of viability (defined as the point after which the preborn child can survive outside the womb with or without medical assistance).

In practice, though, abortion in a number of countries (including the United States, Canada and the People's Republic of China) is legal until the moment of birth. In fact, some abortion methods such as dilation and extraction (D&X), the "partial birth" abortion, are designed to kill the preborn child when the birth process is almost complete.

At the other end of the spectrum, more and more drugs are being developed whose only purpose is to destroy the life of preborn children after fertilization (the union of the sperm and oocyte) and before implantation of the embryo or zygote in the mother’s uterus.

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), the United Nations World Health Organization (UNWHO), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and other pro-abortion organizations falsely define pregnancy as beginning at implantation and not at fertilization. In this manner, these groups claim that abortifacient drugs and devices such as the birth control pill and the intrauterine device (IUD) do not cause early abortions, because they say that a pregnancy does not exist before actual implantation.

Therefore, the honest, accurate and complete definition of the general term "abortion" would be "the intentional or unintentional expulsion or extraction of all of the preborn child (complete) or any part (incomplete) of the placenta or membranes at any time after fertilization and before the natural birth process is completed whether this expulsion or extraction is performed by chemical medication or surgical instrument."

Abortion ButtonsAn "early abortion" generally refers to an abortion that occurs before the 12th completed week of gestation (first trimester); "late abortion" generally refers to an abortion that occurs after the 20th week of gestation.

A "spontaneous abortion" is the medical term for a miscarriage. This term is very important for pro-life activists to remember, because many medical statistical categories and subsequent medical treatments (such as delivery of a child) do not distinguish between intentional and spontaneous abortion.

The current medical literature equates "legal abortion" with "therapeutic abortion." The definition of the word "therapeutic," however, means "treatment of disease." The use of the term "therapeutic" is another pro-abortion attempt to sanitize a repulsive act, and it also implies that pregnancy is a disease — an assertion many pro-abortionists have made directly.

In any case, abortion is a direct attack on a preborn child which kills; it is murder.

A Gosnell Lesson
by Judie Brown

While we were all horrified by the actions of Kermit Gosnell, we should likewise be horrified by the millions of babies killed since abortion was decriminalized, and by the number of lives lost because of contraception. A baby is a baby from the moment he is created, but most people either choose to ignore that fact or remain uneducated. We must learn from the horrors we have seen and vow to do whatever we can to ensure that life, in all stages, is respected and protected.

Throughout history, during scandals and difficult times, men have stood up for what is right and for what should happen according to God’s will and the natural law. Today is no different, though we do not see this heroism as often as we should. Yet, in recent days, we have seen wonderful examples of this. Read today’s commentary for some inspirational stories.

Motherhood Has Become a Cultural Anomaly!

Mother’s Day is Sunday. Traditionally, it is a day to honor and respect all that mothers do and sacrifice for the sake of their children. And while this day is important, special, and necessary, we can’t help but wonder what our country would be like if we celebrated mothers every day. If mothers and babies were held in the highest regard, as they should be, each and every day of the year, think about the lives that could be spared. Think about the heartache that would not come about because a mother chose to abort her child. That would truly be a celebration.

Plan B Contributes to Twisted Diversity

When a society teaches its children to value things above people and to value personal pleasure above all else, what is the result? A society of people who no longer care about their own health, well-being, or future, or about the well-being of others. This misguided notion of what is important leads them into a dangerous lifestyle, and this is where a seemingly innocuous little pill enters. Yet if you delve into this pill—not only what it does, but what it represents—you will find a horror story to rival some of the best. Except that this is reality.

Are Gosnell's Coldblooded Acts a Logical Result?

We all know how easy it is to become sensitized to something—whether it be violence on TV, song lyrics on the radio, or something else entirely. But what kind of nation do we live in when we find the majority of people sensitized to the killing of innocent babies? For 40 years now, it has been legal for a mother to have her tiny child killed. For 40 years, too few tears have been shed for these babies. And now we discover a man like Kermit Gosnell, who devalues life so much that he stabs it out of a baby with a pair of scissors. This is what the last 40 years has brought us. What will happen in the next 40?
