Doctor Hastens Death To Get Organs

March 7, 2007 09:00 AM

It was somewhat disconcerting to read the article about a police investigation involving a transplant surgeon.

It seems a 26-year-old San Luis Obispo, California man may have died prematurely so that his organs could be harvested.

Dr. Hootan Roozrokh, who was a surgeon in Kaiser Permanente's now defunct kidney transplant program, is accuased of possibly ordering excessinve doses of powerful pain medication to speed the death of a patient.

The doctor's attorney is saying that perhaps Roozrokh made "some mistakes."

Of course the larger question is whether or not any vital organ can be taken without killing the donor first.
