Congressmen call for Congressional Investigation of Planned Parenthood

July 21, 2011 09:00 AM

A recent report entitled, “The Case for Investigating Planned Parenthood,” by Americans United for Life has received some high profile support. Nine Congressmen, including freshmen Reps. Renee Ellmers (R-NC-2) and Randy Hultgren (R-IL-14), joined AUL in a press conference calling for a Congressional investigation into Planned Parenthood’s history of financial and ethical violations. The report, which documents what Wednesday STOPP Report subscribers have been reading every week over the last few years, demonstrates a widespread pattern of disdain for both the law and its own claim to help women. Planned Parenthood, which receives $363 million in taxpayer money, claims to be a “family planning” organization that limits abortions via sex education and contraception, yet AUL’s report demonstrates that PP’s abortion rate has increased almost lockstep with its public funding increase (pp. 5).

Furthermore, the report documents a series of undercover stings by Live Action that show irrefutable video evidence that Planned Parenthood is all too willing to cover up and assist those who commit sexual abuse, prostitution, and even human trafficking if it pads its bottom line. To make matters worse, all of this is done with public funding and is tax-free (Planned Parenthood is considered a non-profit).

We urge you to take the following actions now:

  1. These nine Congressmen should be applauded for making the defunding of Planned Parenthood a priority. If you are a member of one of their districts, please show them they have your support. If you are not, please urge your own Congressman to demonstrate the same courage. Select “Contact Congress” in the toolbox on the right side of your screen for aid in identifying and contacting your congressmen.
