  • Expectant Mother Care

On September 20, Expectant Mother Care (EMC Front Line Pregnancy Centers) filed suit against "Dr. Emily's" abortion clinic with sites in the Bronx and downtown Brooklyn, citing evidence of deceptive advertising practices.

"EMC is taking the lead in countering a truly deceptive abortion advertiser which pretends to be an alternative to abortion agency advertising under pro-life ad categories in New York City yellow pages," said Chris Slattery, founder and president of EMC, operator of 15 pro-life crisis pregnancy counseling centers and medical clinics in New York City and suburbs.

"To aggressively compete against pro-life centers, we've seen three New York abortion clinics pose as alternative centers to lure confused women who might be seeking help and support, into abortion clinics to possibly undergo abortions they may not want," Slattery added.

"In a year when unfounded charges of deceptive advertising are flying against pro-life alternatives to abortion groups from abortion industry advocates like Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the National Abortion Federation, we filed a 16-count complaint supported by affidavits alleging deceptive acts and practices in the conduct of an abortion clinic's business in violation of New York General Business Law 349," Slattery said.

EMC is seeking an order from the New York State Supreme Court in Westchester County preliminarily enjoining the defendant from submitting any "Abortion Alternatives" advertising and compelling it to withdraw any such advertising it may already have submitted. EMC also seeks, at the conclusion of the case, a permanent injunction and the damages that are statutorily authorized.

On a related note, Chris Slattery was interviewed last week by ABC World News Tonight and camera crews filmed much of what takes place on a routine day in one of EMC’s offices. Airing times are not certain as of this writing, but watch for news and please keep Chris and his staff at EMC in your prayers.

News

  • U.S. government to authorize human experiments without consent

The Pro-Family Law Center has discovered that the United States Food and Drug Administration is considering new rules that would allow scientists and doctors to conduct "emergency research" on unconscious or other incapacitated patients. This "emergency research" could be conducted without any informed consent from the patient or their designated representative. The proposed regulations known as "Guidance for Institutional Review Boards, Clinical Investigators, and Sponsors; Exception from Informed Consent for Emergency Research" are set for public hearing on October 30. Most American citizens have no idea that this hearing is to take place. Moreover, most wouldn't know what to do about it.

  • Study: Stem cells may improve outcome of child brain cancer

A highly targeted treatment that relies on the patient's own stem cells improves outcomes for children with brain tumors called medulloblastomas, U.S. researchers report. Children with high-risk medulloblastoma have a 30 percent to 40 percent chance of surviving to five years, and chemotherapy usually lasts for about 12 months.

However, "not only can we now cure about 70 percent of children with high-risk medulloblastoma, we can also cure more than 80 percent of those with standard-risk disease with a shorter, and therefore more convenient, chemotherapy approach," said lead researcher Dr. Amar Gajjar, from St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, in a prepared statement.

  • 'Cyst' baby is home after doctors first advised abortion

When told their unborn son would not survive pregnancy, there seemed only one decision for Rachel Whittaker and Matt Capehorn. A routine ultrasound had uncovered a cyst growing inside his right lung and with the odds stacked against him they were offered an abortion. But the couple refused to give up hope and last Tuesday they brought William home for the first time since he was born three months prematurely in June, weighing only 2 pounds, 12 ounces. 'He's our little miracle,' said Mr. Capehorn, a 36-year-old GP.

Doctors discovered the cyst at the start of the year. Four days later it had increased four-fold and was pushing on William's heart and esophagus. But they refused to terminate the pregnancy at 20 weeks and instead surfed the Internet for a solution before contacting one of the world's foremost experts in prenatal surgery.

Closing thought

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, in spite of this I shall be confident.
