Dear Catholic Relief Services: Why Are You So Committed to Funding Abortion and Contraception-Pushing Organizations?

American Life League publishes open letter to Catholic Relief Services

WASHINGTON, D.C.----Following Catholic Relief Services’ public response to a 250-page report by American Life League, ALL president Judie Brown published an open letter to CRS. In the letter, Brown firmly rebukes the millions of dollars in grants CRS gives to organizations that commit abortions, distribute contraception, and perform sterilizations. CRS claims that the grants were for projects that “save lives,” however Brown contends that grants to organizations that fight directly against the gospel of life cannot be justified “simply because those organizations do some good.”

“Funding these groups is a little like paying wolves to tend the sheep,” said Brown. “I simply do not understand why CRS is so determined to fund organizations that have made perfectly clear their commitment to kill babies and ruin souls.”

ALL’s 250-page report on CRS grantees shows that 86 percent of CRS’ domestic grants for fiscal year 2012 went to 23 organizations that distribute and promote the use of all forms of birth control, including abortion.

“All we are asking is for CRS to stop funding organizations that view the elimination of children as the solution to the problem of poverty,” said Brown. “It’s a very simple request, and we really don’t think it is too much to ask of an organization that calls itself Catholic.”

In addition to publishing the open letter on ALL’s website, the open letter was sent to every bishop who is head of a diocese in the United States.

The open letter is available on American Life League’s website: http://www.all.org/pdf/OpenLetterToCRS.pdf

I am so disappointed in my beloved CRS. I sent them a letter to let them know I would no longer support them and they sent back a letter saying "Catholic institutions are our preference. To reach all those who need our help, CRS also participates in humanitarian initiatives undertaken by a wide range of groups, such as governments, other faith communities and secular institutions." END QUOTE! I want to get on my knees and beg God for forgiveness. I don't believe they see the damage they are doing.

I was taught from an early age that I should know God and love God and serve God. I was also taught that abortion and contraception and sterilization was wrong. I was also taught that we were not to do "some good" nor to do evil that good would come from it. What about these things does CRS fail to understand! I want them to apologize and repent or stop calling themselves CATHOLIC!

We've been big supports of CRS in the past. Please do the right thing. Denise Rice

Caritas International, which is the parent organization of CRS, has the support of Pope Francis. Does Pope Francis know about this issue, and what is his response?

I am throughly appalled and unhappy that CRS supports Planned Parenthood. About 2 weeks ago when the Philippines were struck with that typhoon, our parish priest, who is from the Phillipines, told his congregation to donate to CRS. I went to coffee and donuts in our hall to tell people not to give to CRS. They were all in shock and disbelief. I hope what I told them had an impact on them

This is a disgrace and another sign of apostasy in the church. Sooner or later everyone has to choose. God help those who are willfully blind to the realities here.

They will NOT be getting any more money from me.

Hello,I want to contribute to Haiyan relief efforts, but I don't know which organizations that called themselves Catholic are actually providing relief besides the traitorous CRS. To whom can I donate without harming children? Thank you!
ALL ALL | 2013-11-13 12:06:01
Peter, Donations can be given directly to the diocese doing the groundwork, avoiding the CRS middleman. http://www.cbcpnews.com/cbcpnews/?p=26006

Thank you Judie for your letter to Catholic Relief Services(CRS). Asking CRS to stop funding organizations that eliminate children is indeed a very simple request especially if it calls itself Catholic. Thank you for providing the information to them as well as to your readers.

Judie, You keep skirting around the real issue which is the USCCB. CRS just like CCHD are part of USCCB and both by the way have been involved in giving financial support to abortion and contraception organizations. A few years ago I came to the conclusion that USCCB is nothing more than an extension of the Democratic Party. USCCB has fought against welfare reform and supported Obamacare even though it had funding for IVF, contraception and embryonic stem cell research. It has never condemned pro-abortion Catholic politicians let alone Obama himself. For years I had donated to CRS but the second that I found out that it was part of USCCB I stopped donating to it and that was before any abortion scandal. I believe that you are wasting your time going after CRS and should concentrate on defunding USCCB. Sincerely, Patrick G. Carson

I'm shocked! I went online to investigate AUL as our Family foundation makes distributions. I've had a high support of CRS for some time. Now I feel I've "shot myself in the foot!" Are these claims Ms. Brown makes provable?--Thanks.

Good work Judie Brown. I will bring this up to to my pastor. I'm also sure our Syracuse NY diocesan Bishop got a copy according to your letter information. Did you send one to Pope Francis? He will surely act on this deadly travesty of CRS.
