Happy New Year!
We hope everyone has enjoyed a very merry and blessed Christmas season and that the New Year is starting off well for you both personally and in your ministries! Based on correspondence we’ve had the during last few weeks, it would seem that pro-lifers everywhere are refreshed and more eager than ever to continue the work of saving innocent lives. Many will be attending the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., later this month—as will American Life League! We’ll be hosting a booth at the Hyatt Regency this year and encourage you to stop by and say hello while you’re in the area. Also, you’ll note the information below on our upcoming nationwide conference call we’ve dubbed the “ALL National Pro-Life Townhall.” Be sure to mark your calendars and join us for these exciting presentations!

ALL National Pro-Life Townhall
ALL’s Associate Program is excited to announce our upcoming ALL National Pro-Life Townhall conference calls beginning in February 2013!

The ALL National Pro-Life Townhall conference calls will be available exclusively to American Life League Associates. Each month, a different guest presenter will discuss some of the most pressing and current challenges, concerns and victories in today’s pro-life battles. (The format will entail the guest speaker presenting information for the first fifteen to twenty minutes, followed by questions, answers and discussion.)

The first two guest presenters will be fellow American Life League Associates—Pharmacists for Life International and Children of God for Life. (The ALL National Pro-Life Townhall is also a terrific opportunity for you to highlight and promote your organization’s work on a national stage.)

All American Life League Associates are very strongly encouraged to participate on these calls! Please have a representative from your organization register to participate.

Consistent communication is key! Consistent communication among pro-life activists who make up the ALL Associate Program is absolutely necessary as we face growing challenges by those who promote the culture of death. The reelection of the most pro-abortion administration this past year obligates us to ramp up our own efforts in the name of life. These crucial conversations must start right away!

The first The ALL National Pro-Life Townhall conference call is scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2013, at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. To participate in the call and to receive a confirmation email with the toll-free telephone number and pass code, you must register by Friday, February 22, 2013. Register by contacting Leslie Tignor at or 540-659-4171.

Study claims tele-medicine (webcam) abortions may lower complications: Authors’ own data indicates a potential 11% increase in complications
The American Journal of Public Health has preliminarily released an electronic version of “Changes in Service Delivery Patterns After Introduction of Telemedicine Provision of Medical Abortion in Iowa,” a study which examines the effect that offering webcam-advised prescriptions for abortion pills has had on both the number of abortions and the demographics of women seeking abortions in Iowa. Daniel Grossman leads four other authors in this study, which employs a questionable unit of analysis and unsupported conclusions—namely that “Recent legislation to ban telemedicine abortion may adversely affect public health by preventing women from accessing abortion earlier in pregnancy, when it is safer.

Planned Parenthood study figures reveal hundreds of abortion pill complications, including death
A “study” released by Planned Parenthood employees and sympathizers has concluded—based on incomplete numbers—that the abortion pill is “safe,” despite admitting to a reported 385 “serious” complications, including at least one abortion pill-related death from 2009-2010. The study group consisted of two Planned Parenthood employees, one member of a Planned Parenthood advisory group, and a fourth member who receives financial compensation from Danco Laboratories, the U.S. distributor for the abortion pill mifepristone, also known as RU486.

Fundraising Tip
In A Spirituality of Fundraising, Henri Nouwen says: “Fundraising is, first and foremost, a ministry. It is a way of announcing our vision and inviting other people into our mission. . . . With Him, we can do anything because we know that God surrounds us with an abundance of blessings. Therefore, those who need money and those who can give money meet on the common ground of God’s love.” I believe this wholeheartedly. In the introduction to my own book, Estate Planning for Catholics, I grieve over the conceptual separation people have inserted between money and morality. In contrast, our wealth and money are central topics of the Bible and most ethical philosophies. Donors who are being asked to give money are being offered a grace-filled opportunity to bring material wealth—and power—into an expression of Christian charity. As a fundraiser, it is my duty and privilege to share with people how they can utilize their wealth to bring dramatic blessings to people in need. The transformation is not just in the receiver, but in the giver who has the rare privilege of joining in God’s love and sharing it with a neighbor. In all of our focus on fundraising tactics and techniques, we often forget that our financial need is secondary to the need of donors to give. The donor’s need is a true, spiritual need that reaches into the core of their being. In fundraising, we are most importantly facilitating that need.

Closing Thought
Jesus is the intimate companion of each and every human person, even those who do not know Him. He knows each one of us; God the eternal Son of the Father unites Himself to my humanity and to your humanity. He lives in us and suffers in us and through us. He accompanies us through our companionship with one another and reaches out to others through our witness.
