From Associates

American Life League of Arizona
On Saturday, March 17, the city of Phoenix celebrated its 29th annual St. Patrick's Day parade downtown and, for the second consecutive year, our Associate group, ALL of Arizona, joined "Clowns for Life" to help spread the word about the sanctity of life during this festive event. The group and its message were well received as noted by the amount of clapping they received from so many of the parade audience. It was very encouraging for the pro-lifers, especially with so many children watching and cheering!

Tip of the Month – Birth Control
By ALL Staff Members

Many pro-lifers do not view contraception as a pro-life concern – but it is. Some forms of birth control can actually cause an early abortion. Additionally, birth control leads to a state of mind that treats sexual activity as if it has nothing to do with procreation. Sexual activity becomes a recreational activity, birth control becomes a recreational drug and babies become "accidents" or burdens to be eliminated.

In addition to the moral reasons, there are two very important health reasons for our opposition to chemical birth control. The first is that, contrary to popular thought, birth control does not reduce abortion – even those who support birth control admit to this. It is extremely dishonest to promote the theory that the birth control curtails abortion per se when, in fact, chemical birth control can and does work in three different ways, one of which is abortion. Therefore, to suggest that birth control "keeps abortions from happening" is not accurate.

Further, the synthetic hormones in many forms of chemical birth control are known to be carcinogenic (cancer causing) and can cause a series of health problems for both women and for future preborn children. Chemical birth control has been linked not only to cancer but to heart conditions, thromboembolisms (deep vein blood clots) and more.

Chemical birth control has also recently been tied to negative effects on the environment, particularly rivers and streams, as well as wildlife in those waterways.

It is not compassionate to deceive men or women by only telling them what they want to hear. There are cruel facts about birth control that rarely see the light of day. It is part of our responsibility to make sure such facts are part of the education we provide so that, regardless of what your opinion is, you have all the facts before making a decision one way or the other.

The Pill Kills, an annual event designed to educate the public about the harmful nature of the birth control pill and other birth control products, will be held on June 2 this year. Add the name of your organization to our list of co-sponsors and watch this space for more information in the coming weeks!

Researcher: Coverage of abortion-mental illness link ‘an excellent example’ of media bias
A professor at the center of a controversy over the link between abortion and mental illness has responded to her critics, charging the media with biased coverage that is misleading the public on a critical issue relevant to public health.

Chinese study finds link between previous abortion and depression among pregnant women
A new study of post-abortive women in China found a high correlation between induced abortion and depression among pregnant women, adding to the growing body of evidence that links abortion with negative mental health outcomes.  The findings were reached by a team of Chinese researchers from Anhui Medical College who analyzed data that had been previously collected as part of an on-going study on child development. Their study, titled, “The Impact of Prior Abortion on Anxiety and Depression Symptoms During a Subsequent Pregnancy: Data From a Population-Based Cohort Study in China,” was published recently in the Bulletin of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

Contraceptive pill Yasmin continues to stir debate
Following concerns that contraceptive pills containing the synthetic hormone drospirenone carry an increased risk of blood clots, panel members of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) met in December to vote on whether the benefits outweighed the risks. They voted 15-11 in favor. However, research carried out by the Washington Monthly and the British Medical Journal (BMJ) has since found that four of the panel members had links to Bayer, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures two of the best known drospirenone-containing pills, Yaz and Yasmin.

Obama admin OKs using aborted babies’ brains in lab tests
Scott Fischbach, the director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, uncovered information showing a clinical trial approved by the Food and Drug Administration uses brain tissue from aborted unborn babies to treat macular degeneration. StemCells Inc. will inject fetal brain stem cells into the eyes of up to 16 patients to study the cells’ effect on vision.

Spanish doctors successfully perform first fetal lung surgery
A team of doctors in Spain have successfully performed the world’s first prenatal lung surgery on a 26-week-old fetus with blocked bronchi. The operation was carried out by a joint team of doctors from the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and the Sant Joan de Deu Hospital on a baby girl with bronchial atresia, a rare congenital anomaly in which the connection between trachea and the lung is blocked.  http://www.presstv.ir/detail/231664.html

Charge: U.S. selling aborted baby body parts
Even though the practice is a criminal offense, one pro-lifer asserts that body parts are being harvested from aborted babies and used for research purposes in the U.S. and abroad.  Investigate Magazine, a New Zealand-based current affairs publication from a conservative Christian standpoint, . . . determine[d] that a Maryland brokerage firm has been arranging the sale of parts of American aborted babies to the University of Auckland medical school in New Zealand for experiments.

Closing Thought

Let the message of Christ, in all its richness, find a home with you. Teach each other, and advise each other, in all wisdom. With gratitude in your hearts sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs to God; and never say or do anything except in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
