'The Station of the Cross - Catholic Radio' Received Unexpected Mission from EWTN's Mother Angelica by Katie Walker Released October 2, 2009
Washington, D.C. (02 October 2009) – American Life League’s newest Associate member, The Station of the Cross – Catholic Radio, is the surprise result of a direct challenge issued by Mother Angelica.
During their visit to the monastery at EWTN in the mid-1990s, Jim and Joanne Wright were asked by EWTN’s legendary foundress to start a Catholic radio apostolate in their home town of Buffalo, New York.
“How can we do this with no radio or other media experience?” the Wrights wondered. But after prayerful discernment, they set out to bring Catholic radio to the airwaves of Western New York, and began broadcasting as WLOF 101.7 FM in Buffalo on August 15, 1999, the Feast of Our Lady’s Assumption; and as WHIC 1460 AM in Rochester on July 1, 2003.
In June 2008, The Station of the Cross began a new pro-life outreach called Warriors of Love. Its mission to protect the lives of innocent human beings is fueled by a simple motto: “Love will end abortion.”
“Every Saturday morning, from 7:30–9 a.m., we pray publicly in front of the most active child-killing center in Buffalo, New York,” Jim explained. “Our purpose is to intercede with sacrificial love, through prayer and peaceful action for our neighbors. We pray the entire Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and engage in sidewalk counseling.”
“The Station of the Cross is doing truly innovative work in the struggle to recognize personhood for every human being,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “Whether it’s in the radio studio, outside the local abortuary or at the foot of the Cross in prayer, American Life League is proud to stand with The Station of the Cross, to fight the culture of death and recognize human personhood for ALL – born and preborn."
American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death.
