Doctorless Abortions in Arizona Reveal Planned Parenthood Anti-Woman Agenda by Katie Walker Released October 1, 2009
Washington, D.C. (01 October 2009) – Planned Parenthood is once again standing in the way of women’s physical and emotional health.
The nation’s largest abortion chain succeeded in postponing new Arizona laws that were to take effect Sept. 29 and has left vulnerable abortion-bound women and girls in harm’s way.
Among provisions of the new laws that have been blocked by Planned Parenthood are those that would have banned nurses from performing abortions and required a physician to speak in person with those seeking abortions about potential complications of the procedure 24 hours in advance.
“Planned Parenthood has railed for decades that legal abortions are needed so they can be administered by physicians in a ‘safe’ manner. Unable to find enough physicians willing to kill children in the womb, Planned Parenthood resorted to allowing ‘specially trained nurses’ to do their bidding,” said Rita Diller, national director of American Life League's STOP Planned Parenthood project.
“Now, a full three-quarter of abortions in Arizona are committed by nurse practitioners. Arizona legislators, concerned about the safety of women and girls, enacted laws banning that practice. Planned Parenthood has managed to block the legislature’s prohibition.
“First trimester abortion is a dangerous surgical procedure that involves forcefully suctioning the live baby from the protection of its mother’s womb with a powerful vacuum instrument and a blind scraping of the uterus with an extremely sharp instrument.”
According to the Elliott Institute, “approximately 10 percent of women undergoing elective abortion will suffer immediate complications, of which approximately one-fifth (2 percent) are considered life threatening. The most common immediate complications include infection, excessive bleeding, embolism, ripping or perforation of the uterus, anesthesia complications, convulsions, hemorrhage, cervical injury, and endotoxic shock.”
“These figures are compiled from abortions committed for the most part by physicians,” Diller said. “How many more women will be harmed by personnel who lack advanced medical training? If your uterus or intestines were accidentally perforated during the course of a surgical procedure, wouldn’t you want a doctor beside you?”
“Behold Planned Parenthood’s latest gift-that-keeps-on-giving to women: surgical abortion without a doctor. And don’t forget the dead baby that will forever haunt his or her mother’s memories. Abortion is anathema. It should never happen. It is time for all people of good will to oppose Planned Parenthood.”
