PP mourns loss of Senator Edward Kennedy, darling of the culture of death
“The Planned Parenthood Federation of America family is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our nation’s strongest leaders, Senator Edward Kennedy,” said Cecile Richards, CEO, in an August 26 press release. Indeed, one could not find a more ardent supporter of Planned Parenthood and abortion on demand than Senator Kennedy.
Catholic Action League executive director C.J. Doyle, in his recent press release, detailed a long list of anti-life advocacy championed by Kennedy during his lengthy tenure as a legislator:
Senator Kennedy supported legal abortion, partial-birth abortion, the public funding of Medicaid abortions, embryonic stem cell research, birth control, federal family planning programs, and so-called emergency contraception. He defended Roe v. Wade, endorsed the proposed Freedom of Choice Act, and opposed both the Human Life Amendment and the Hyde Amendment. Kennedy maintained a 100% rating from both NARAL and PP. In 1993, he received the Kenneth Edelin Award from Planned Parenthood, and in 2000, received the Champions of Choice Award from NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts at the hands of the same Dr. Kenneth Edelin, the infamous abortionist.
During his 1994 reelection campaign, Kennedy said, “I wear as a badge of honor my opposition to the anti-choicers.” His successful obstruction of the nomination of Judge Robert Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987 effectively prevented the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Beyond his specific positions on human life issues, Senator Kennedy, along with the late Congressman Robert Drinan, provided the cover and the example for two generations of Catholic politicians to defect from Church teaching on the sanctity of innocent human life.
American Life League, Catholic Action League and Fr. Thomas Euteneuer of Human Life International were among those decrying the provision of a grandiose public Catholic funeral for the senator, who stood in direct opposition to the tenets of the Catholic faith on the sanctity of life.
PP of Indiana: Curbing sexual activity and ending poverty through abortion, drag shows and morning-after pill giveaways
Planned Parenthood of Indiana president and CEO Betty Cockrum recently published an article titled “Focus Must be on Stopping Cycle of Poverty." In this article, Ms. Cockrum states, “The cycle of poverty often begins with unintended pregnancy, a problem that I try to prevent each day in my role [at PP].” She rails against abstinence education while advocating “comprehensive sex education” to stop the cycle of poverty, actually claiming that teens who are taught about contraception delay sexual activity!
So how does PP of Indiana put the rubber to the road in stopping poverty by delaying sexual activity? Every year around Valentine’s Day, it puts on an event for young people called the 80s Prom: A Safe Sex in the City Event. Regarding this year’s event, the PP of Indiana web site reports, “More than 200 prom-goers teased their ‘dos, donned acid-washed duds and came out to Talbott Street in support of Planned Parenthood of Indiana. Whether guests arrived as couples or came stag, they enjoyed DJ Logan’s ‘80s grooves and the ‘Wearing A Condom Isn’t A Drag’ drag show courtesy of Talbott Street’s Ladies of Legends and IndyPride Bag Ladies.”
In February and March of 2008, the organization sponsored an emergency contraception (“morning-after pill”) giveaway to coincide with spring break.
Drag shows to encourage condom use and the morning-after pill spring break giveaway – two shining examples of how PP of Indiana is working to break the cycle of poverty by encouraging young people to delay sex.
PP cross-dresser: The latest PP fashion?
Speaking of drag shows, Pat Horton, pictured below, community outreach and education coordinator for Planned Parenthood of South Central Michigan, walked a half-mile “wearing pumps, a wig and breasts made of inflated condoms” to promote an upcoming walk to curb domestic abuse. “Men will be asked to wear heels or bells and ribbons on their feet while walking,” according to an August 29 Battle Creek Enquirer news story.

PP neighbors annoyed by pictures of aborted babies
For over a year, pro-lifers in Portland, Oregon, have been protesting a proposed Planned Parenthood facility currently under construction at the intersection of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Beech Street.
Precious Children of Portland maintains a regular presence outside this construction site every Thursday and Friday from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m.
Now PP’s neighbors are becoming annoyed with all the activity. An article on OregonLive.com reports that Sound Roots: A School of Modern Music, located at 412 Northeast Beech Street, is considering moving due to the protesters. Fara Heath of Sound Roots said, “Last week, we had rock band camp, and all the kids were standing around asking questions about the pictures [of aborted babies].”
Paul Mulherin, who protests outside PP, defended the display of the pictures, drawing a comparison to Nazi Germany: “If the German people had seen pictures of what was going on in their backyard, maybe they would have put a stop to it.”

One of the ways to defeat PP is to eliminate local, state and federal government funding for this organization. Sign the petition to stop the taxpayer funding of PP: www.stopplannedparenthoodtaxfunding.com.

Pro-lifers offer real alternatives for mothers in Aurora, Illinois
A new clinic will open soon near the huge Planned Parenthood abortuary in Aurora. Waterleaf Women’s Center, organized by three local families, “will offer free pregnancy testing, counseling, adoption information and assistance for families raising newborns,” according to the Beacon News.
The center will also provide bilingual counseling for the Hispanics in the area. Cyndi Crane, Waterleaf’s president, said that its initial goal is to save 52 babies in its first year of operation.
On Sunday, August 30, Rev. Thomas Milota, director of the Diocese of Joliet respect life office, blessed Waterleaf Women’s Center and dedicated it to serving clients for the greater glory of God. It is located at 2849 East New York Street, Suite D, in Aurora, Illinois.
Meanwhile, another pro-life group, Fox Valley Families Against Planned Parenthood, continues regular protests in front of the nearby gargantuan abortion facility. For Eric Scheidler’s latest video update, click here.
STOPPers in New York see the fruit of their prayers

This week, we highlight Our Lady of Guadalupe Rosarians, a pro-life coalition in Spring Valley, New York, that has been working tirelessly for three years to end abortion in the area. The group maintains a daily presence outside Planned Parenthood. To view prayer times, click here.

Richard Bruno, the group’s contact person, stated in an e-mail to STOPP, “Lives have been saved, tragedies averted and hearts have been won. The effectiveness of our peaceful prayers is continually affirmed by the number of passersby who show visible support for our peaceful presence.”
Thank you for all that you do, Our Lady of Guadalupe Rosarians, and keep up the great work!
