Language Approved for Colorado Personhood Amendment
by Katie Walker
Released August 6, 2009

Washington, D.C. (06 August 2009) – Colorado is one step closer to acknowledging human rights for every human being after the State of Colorado’s Title Board unanimously approved the language of the proposed 2010 Personhood Amendment yesterday.

“While some ignore the root of our nation’s obsession with death, Colorado is blazing a path for human rights and dignity,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. “More and more pro-lifers in Colorado and around the country are working tirelessly to promote the vision of our nation’s founders: justice and equality under the law for all human beings.”

The 2010 Personhood Amendment marks a significant change from Colorado’s 2008 Personhood Initiative, by extending the legal recognition of personhood to all human beings – both sexually and asexually reproduced.

The Amendment reads, "An amendment to the Colorado Constitution applying the term 'person' as used in those provisions of the Colorado Constitution relating to inalienable rights, equality of justice, and due process of law, to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being."

The next step is collecting 76,047 Colorado voter signatures over the next six months. In 2008, 131,000 signatures were collected for the Amendment 48 campaign.

American Life League stands with Personhood USA and Colorado Right to Life in the fight for authentic social justice, founded on respect for the dignity and worth of every human being.

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
