Pence Amendment to Defund Planned Parenthood of Title X Funding

Washington, D.C. (22 July 2009) – U.S. Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) filed an amendment today to the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill that would strip Planned Parenthood of Title X funding.
“Millions of tax dollars are wasted each year fueling an organization that promotes eugenics and protects sexual predators under the guise of ‘family planning’” said Rita Diller, national director of American Life League’s STOP Planned Parenthood project.
American Life League is mobilizing hundreds of thousands of supporters across the country to support the measure.
“We are committed to working alongside Congressman Pence to defund this abhorrent organization immediately,” Diller said. “For the sake of our children, our nation must stop throwing money at Planned Parenthood.”
The Pence Amendment, one of twelve amendments introduced to the Appropriations bill, reads:
“None of the funds made available under this Act shall be available to Planned Parenthood for any purpose under Title X of the Public Health Services Act.”
Congressman Pence will testify Thursday on the Amendment before the House Rules Committee.
“The time has come to deny any and all federal funding to Planned Parenthood of America,” Rep. Pence said on the House floor Wednesday. “The largest abortion provider in America should not also be the largest recipient of federal funds under Title X. It’s time to pass the Pence Amendment to keep taxpayer money out of the hands of Planned Parenthood.”
