More taxpayer money for Planned Parenthood
President Obama recently came out with his 2010 fiscal year budget. In it, you will find many more reasons to either join the fight or continue the fight against PP.
In the budget, Obama plans to end funding for abstinence only sex education programs. Teaching the chastity message to young people began in the late 1980s. It is what led to a 14-year decline in teenage pregnancies in the United States. But young people who are chaste do not provide any income to PP.
So, PP worked very hard in the late 90s and in the early years of the 21st century to discredit abstinence only programs. It even bragged about getting states to turn down the abstinence only money from the federal government. In its place, it pushed what it is calling “evidence-based” comprehensive sex education. These are just the kind of programs that got us in trouble in the first place. Its efforts have been rewarded, as Obama’s first budget is providing $178 million for PP-type sex education programs.
Many of our readers will recall that Obama tried to put a provision in his stimulus bill to make the funding of family planning a permanent part of Medicaid. Through the use of Medicaid waivers, over half the states already provide some family planning coverage and have made Medicaid the number one government program that funds PP. We have worked together to defeat this effort and won.
Now, in the Obama budget, this provision is back. The budget allows all states to fund family planning through Medicaid without having to apply for a waiver. We urge you to contact your members of Congress and let them know what you think about giving more money to PP.
The Obama budget also calls for an increase in Title X funding by $10 million. PP historically receives about 25 percent of Title X funds, so this one item in the budget will increase money to PP by $2.5 million. And, PP is complaining that this is not enough.
Last year, PP received a total of $349.6 million from our tax dollars. What can you do? Sign the petition to stop all tax funding to PP.
We also need to continue educating the people in our communities about defunding PP. While doing this, we need to remain positive. With our constant perseverance and a great deal of prayer, there will be an end to government funding for PP. This baby-killing organization too, will end, but in order to see this, we must continue to educate the American public. The more people talk about it, the more people in our country will hear about it. This is a big challenge, but we have seen so many positive things that have developed over the years – such as congressmen bringing up the topic more and more, and the increased awareness among the American people who are fighting PP’s tax funding at the state and local level.
Keep up the great work because we will win this battle.
International PP calls for sex ed as a human right?
International Planned Parenthood Federation has launched a petition campaign called “15andcounting.” This campaign calls for “better access to sexual health services and education for everyone, regardless of your age, gender or where you live.” The campaign was launched as part of the 15th anniversary of the “International Conference on Population and Development” that took place in 1994.
The petition itself simply states, “I support sexual rights for all.” This petition pressures governments to provide sexual health services and education for everyone regardless of age. However, as we have seen repeatedly, introducing PP’s type of sex education to a child at a young age (or through adolescence) has detrimental effects on the development of the child.
Dr. Melvin Anchell, author of A Psychoanalytic Look at Today’s Sex Education states:
Sex education programs from kindergarten through high school continuously downgrade the intimate, affectionate, monogamous nature of human sexuality. Whether the sex educators purposefully intend to do so or not, their sex teachings act, nevertheless, to desensitize students to the spiritual quality of human sexuality.
Anchell concludes, “Local, state and national school officials must be led to know that we have had enough, and that we expect them to translate our outrage into educational courses that serve the needs of civilized people – not the needs of those living by instinct alone.”
We must continue to fight PP and its sex education programs here in the United States and do everything we can to help protect the children of our present and future generations.
Protests gaining momentum: The Pill Kills
As many of our readers know, protesting outside of PP facilities is very effective in helping to save lives and shutting down PP. On Saturday, June 6, join pro-lifers across the country and participate in the largest protest against the birth control pill. You can do this by having a presence outside of a local PP clinic or any other place that distributes this dangerous drug.
Read stories about women who have died from the pill and similar birth control products, and find out the most common questions people may ask you while you are protesting the pill.
Let us know you are participating! E-mail us at protests@all.org or call our office at 540-659-4171 and find out more about what you can do to help educate the truth about the pill and PP in your area.
Visit the www.ThePillKills.com for more information.
Thank you
Thank you to all of our readers and STOPPers for sending us your e-mails and for calling our office to let us know how appreciative you are for the information we provide for you. We too appreciate your continued efforts in fighting PP and are here for any information or encouragement you may need. Please keep us posted on how things are going in your area. God bless you and your efforts!
Kansas looks to defund PP
Lately, Kansas has been in the news primarily because of two major events that could result in a huge blow to PP.
The first is about a piece of legislation that could lead to removing money from PP in the entire state. The Huelskamp Amendment to the state budget awaits the signature of Governor Mark Parkinson and would redirect Title X money to “hospitals and other legitimate medical facilities” and, thus, could possibly eliminate PP from receiving Title X money.
The Amendment passed in both houses after an audio recording of a supposed 14-year-old girl who called PP was released. The 14-year-old girl who called PP in Overland Park, Kansas, was played by an Operation Rescue volunteer. The volunteer asked questions about getting a pregnancy test and admitted to having a 23-year-old boyfriend. However, the PP employee made no reference to the possibility of statutory rape.
As the piece of legislation awaits the governor’s signature, contact Gov. Mark Parkinson at 877-579-6757 or visit: http://www.governor.ks.gov/contact.htm and tell him what you think of PP!
Another major event is happening in the Kansas Supreme Court. The state’s Supreme Court will be hearing oral arguments today from the former district attorney, Phill Kline, about the 107 criminal counts (including 23 felonies) that he first charged PP of Kansas and Mid-Missouri with in 2007.
Prayers of petition will be going out for both of these situations so that PP will be held accountable for its actions and more mothers and babies will be protected.
Undercover video sparks possible investigation of PP in Tennessee
Not long after Live Action Films released its fifth video exposing PP in undercover recordings, the Shelby County District Attorney’s office began looking into whether or not a full investigation is warranted for the PP clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.
As you may recall, the video, released on April 20, shows a 14-year-old girl being “counseled” by a PP employee on how to lie about the age of her 31-year-old boyfriend.
Live Action released the video to the public on April 28 and, in the meantime, PP attempted to defend its employee. Live Action then sent a response letter to the Tennessee lawmakers stating that the PP employee “demonstrates a clear knowledge of the legal boundaries to abortion. The video shows that she is familiar with the process for obtaining a waiver from a judge to the parental consent requirement for abortion…”
According to a press release that Live Action issued last week, the group sent raw footage to District Attorney Bill Gibbons. Jennifer Donnals, the District Attorney Office spokeswoman said, “[Attorney] Gen. Gibbons has assigned one of the prosecutors in our Grand Jury section to review the video to determine if the matter warrants any further investigation.”
We all understand that fighting PP is never easy, but we must be persistent, just as Live Action has been. This is a great step in the fight against PP, and ALL applauds the hard work the young people at Live Action have been doing to expose the truth about PP. May all of us continue to educate our congressmen about PP and help stop PP funding in your state.
