Can Planned Parenthood get any more stupid?

Seriously folks, when fighting Planned Parenthood you will run into some things that really have you wondering, how stupid can PP get? With a desperate cry to get more people into its clinics, PP of South Texas is sponsoring a competition of who can make the most creative outfit…out of condoms.  Can you say stupid? I’m sure plenty of other things come to mind, but with $336.7 million of your tax dollars, this ridiculous business must be shut down.

If you haven’t picked up on it yet, PP is trying to make condoms into some kind of fashion. With its most recent attempts of selling “
Proper Attire” condoms with a new “collection” of condoms, PP is once again trying to desensitize the young people of our generation and lure them into its clinics.

The event in South Texas is titled
Project Slicker 2009 and the condoms to create these costumes “will be provided free of charge to registered artists.”

This condom on the brain, baby-killing organization must be defeated. With all of its nonsense and medically inaccurate information, PP still claims to know it all. PP supposedly has “
leaders” who offer a “robust vision and commonsense solutions designed to protect women’s health and safety and the basic human rights of us all.”

Give me a break.

PP hires new CEO of New York affiliate

The PP of the Southern Finger Lakes affiliate in the state of New York has hired a new CEO and president. Joseph M. Sammons will be overseeing the affiliate, which has five PP clinics. These clinics are located in Corning, Elmira, Hornell, Ithaca and Watkins Glen.

It appears that PP is looking to expand this affiliate, since it hired someone who has experience in grassroots community organizing, and received certification in financial management.

Currently PP has a total of 99 affiliates in the United States, down from 108 in 2007. This number has steadily declined since 2001 when PP had 128 affiliates. Oftentimes PP will merge its affiliates to cut costs and increase its overall profits. In the case of Southern Finger Lakes, we’ll see what happens.

PP does not like protesters

PP certainly does not like it when pro-lifers are outside its doors and helping young mothers. At times, PP employees get so frustrated that it distracts them and really makes them think twice about why pro-lifers are out there in the first place. Even more of a reason to start a protest in your area!

PP of Houston and Southeast Texas has been terribly annoyed with the peaceful pro-lifers who have been participating in 40 Days for Life. These pro-lifers have been praying outside of PP facilities and other abortion clinics since February 25.

PP of Houston and Southeast Texas set up a web page that says pro-lifers harass women. It even includes some “tips” in regards to encountering a pro-lifer. One example includes:

Q: Why are there protesters outside Planned Parenthood?

A:  These protesters don’t believe in birth control, sex education or a woman’s right to information about all of her options when she is pregnant.  The protesters don’t want clients coming to Planned Parenthood.  Their goal is to shut down Planned Parenthood.  Some protesters are loud and yell at clients and others stand quietly and hold signs. They all try to intimidate or mislead our clients.  Don’t worry. Planned Parenthood has volunteer escorts to help you get into our clinic safely.

Sure, PP tries to paint a pro-lifer as some kind of bad guy when, in reality, if any young mother does end up having a death escort walk her into a PP clinic, that escort is not taking the young mother into any safe place, but helping her destroy her life and killing her preborn baby. Many mothers can attest to how grateful they are for the pro-lifers who were there to support them outside the clinics – and are now very grateful they did not go through with an abortion.

STOPP thanks all of the pro-lifers who continue to work hard and have committed to a regular, peaceful protest in their area. Be sure to check out our Map Room and/or e-mail us at protests@all.org for any updated information or a story you’d like to share!

So close in Texas

Last week, senators in Texas were very close to bringing Budget Rider 56 to a vote that could have defunded over 70 PPs in the state.

Rider 56 first passed the Senate Finance Committee’s work group on health and human services and, in order for this to take effect, it needed to pass the Texas Senate Finance Committee. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Steve Ogden took it out of the proposed state budget because it “didn’t have the votes.” However, it would have prevented $50 million of family planning funding from going to organizations such as PP. The money would have only been available to federally qualified health centers and county health departments.

The fact that these discussions are even going on is a very good thing. We must continue to spread the message to defund PP because the more we talk about it, the more our legislators will listen!

Academics for Life plans to demonstrate outside PP

Tomorrow, March 26, at 3:30 p.m. Concordia Seminary, Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and other institutions will walk in full academic regalia for an hour outside the PP at 4251 Forest Park Ave., St. Louis, Missouri. Academics for Life will then meet in the Werner Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. for an event titled, “Lutheran Forum on Planned Non-Parenthood.” All are welcome to attend.

The idea of having the Academics for Life event developed because of a column written by Catholic Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann which criticized the appointment of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Gov. Sebelius has praised, defended and treated to dinner at the governor’s mansion the notorious Dr. George Tiller who is now on trial for performing illegal late term abortions. Tiller calls himself a “practicing” Lutheran.

The group feels that the “time has come for Christians regardless of denomination to lend visible support to the ‘40 Days of Life’ people praying and fasting outside [a] PP facility.”

15th year of pro-lifers praying outside PP on Good Friday

Pro-lifers in the state of New York have been praying outside a PP on Good Friday for the past 15 years. Good Friday is the Friday during Holy Week, the Friday before Easter Sunday. This day is traditionally a day of fasting and penance, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. This year, Good Friday takes place on April 10.

Now that the pro-lifers have received the city council’s approval, the group plans to pray again this year on the parking lot spaces at the Northern Adirondack PP at 66 Brinkerhoff St., Plattsburgh, New York. The group, made up of the Bishop Apostles for Life and Champlain Valley Right to Life, expects 80-100 people, including eight priests.

The Bishop Apostles for Life and Champlain Valley Right to Life will begin the prayer devotion, the Stations of the Cross, at 10:00 a.m. Those who are interested are encouraged to attend. For those who may not live near Plattsburgh, New York, we encourage all of you to take this day in remembrance of the agony and pain our Lord went through, and plan a protest outside a local PP clinic in your area. These facilities are where millions of babies have been ripped apart, families have been destroyed and mothers been lied to and scarred with abuse and extreme violation.

As you can see on the Map Room web site, Bart Gaffney and others lead prayer outside this PP facility each day during the week (Monday through Friday) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. God bless all of you in the Plattsburgh area and keep up the amazing work that you do to save lives and work to close down PP!

PP CLINIC CLOSING!

The PP in Monroe, Washington, will be closing at the end of this month due to finances. PP had been experiencing financial loss for the past few years and, once a community health center (Sea Mar) opened in the same town, PP got the boot! Brian Cutler of PP said, “Had Sea Mar not opened, we would not have closed our health center in Monroe.”

However, there is something more going on in the state of Washington than what meets the eye. In the beginning of 2009, PP of Alaska, PP of Western Washington, and PP of Idaho merged to form PP of the Great Northwest. The total combined affiliates would bring in an annual income around $34 million.

We have seen PP shut down smaller affiliates and combine them to create larger affiliates in which PP would make more money. During these mergers, clinics may be shut down and duplicate positions may get eliminated. Remember, PP is a business – a baby-killing business that is out to get taxpayers' money and create as many customers as possible.

In spite of all this, we are still happy to see one less PP clinic in existence. We have heard from the pro-lifers out in Washington and they are happy as well! As Michelle McIntrye of Everett said in an e-mail, “What a beautiful reminder to us, that even in these hard economic times and social and spiritual decay, ‘We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.’  (Romans 8:28)”
