Rat study clarifies abortion pill deaths
ANN ARBOR, Michigan - Researchers here think they may have finally found at least part of the reason why eight women died of acute Clostridial infection following medical abortion with mifepristone (Mifeprex) and misoprostol (Cytotec). Seven of the women, all of whom died of shock complicating clostridial endometritis, had used the companion drug misoprostol off-label as a vaginal suppository, rather than taking it via the approved oral route, noted David Aronoff, M.D., of the University of Michigan, and colleagues.

Virginia law eyed in girl's abortion
Federal authorities are investigating the actions of a Catholic charity in Richmond which helped a 16-year-old Guatemalan girl to receive an abortion in January, in possible violation of Virginia law. Officials have called the matter to the attention of U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) headquarters in Washington, urging it to prevent any repetition of the incident. Four employees of Commonwealth Catholic Charities, Richmond, (CCR) have been fired and one supervisor with the bishops' Migration and Refugee Services agency has been suspended, according to federal sources and a secret April 29 letter written by three bishops to 350 bishops nationwide. It is illegal in Virginia for a social worker to sign a parental consent form for an abortion. The state's notification law stipulates that at least one parent, grandparent or adult sibling must give consent.

Doctors Refuse to Work at Hospital Unless they are Allowed to Deny Treatment to Patient
WINNIPEG, June 17, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Two doctors – ICU director Bojan Paunovic and specialist David Easton – of Winnipeg's Grace Hospital's critical-care unit have refused shifts at the hospital rather than to allow 84-year-old Samuel Golubchuk to continue to receive nutrition and hydration.
Golubchuck is being kept on life support by court order pending a trail set for this fall. When the hospital tried to halt his food, hydration and ventilator, Golubchuck's family filed an injunction against the hospital, saying that starving him to death would violate their Orthodox Jewish faith.
Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition commented on this situation. "It appears that the doctors are intentionally pressuring the system into a crisis in order for them to get their way and stop providing treatment for Samuel Golubchuk," Mr. Schadenberg said.
Having found that women are generally uninterested in going through a risky procurement procedure so scientists can use their eggs for cloning and embryonic stem cell research experiments, researchers are now calling for a repeal of state laws that currently ban financial payments for eggs according to the journal Nature.
